Vrabac
Encouraged by the great success of the German slide of the Zögling type, engineer Ivan Šoštarić constructed the Vrabac-A gldier in 1939. In the same year, serial production of 15 pieces began, so it is the first serially built glider in our country.
Vrabac-A is a glider of mixed construction with an underbody ski for landing, intended for basic pilot training. Due to its simple construction, it was built in the local aero club workshops in the winter, so that training can be carried out during the summer. This glider is used to acquire the first concepts of steering a glider and a sense of position in space. Taking off was done from the top of the hill, by tightening and releasing the rubber bands, and the glider took off as if thrown from a slingshot. The flight lasted a few minutes.
After the Second World War, mass production continued and more than 150 pieces were made. The exhibited glider was produced at the "Utva" aviation factory in Pančevo.
