Mi-2
The Mi-2 is a Soviet helicopter intended for the evacuation of wounded, rescue, reconnaissance and geological research. The prototype of this multipurpose light helicopter first flew in 1961. Serial production was transferred from the Soviet Union to Poland in 1965, where more than 5.250 Mi-2 helicopters were produced until 1992. Combat versions were also developed, armed with anti-tank and air-to-air missiles.
It was used for military and civilian purposes and an agricultural version was also developed. In the 1960s (1963/1965) the Mi-2 helicopter set world records in flight speed in the category of helicopters for specific purposes.
In 1969 the Yugoslav Air Force acquired 15 Mi-2 helicopters for the transport of light cargo, mainly medical supplies.
The aircraft from the collection of the Aeronautical Museum was used by the Auto-Moto Association of Yugoslavia as a medical helicopter for the transport of those injured in traffic accidents. During its service, it was based in Batajnica and Niš until it was decommissioned in 1987, and two years later it was handed over to the Aeronautical Museum.
