Fieseler Fi-156C "Storch"

Extremely maneuverable at low altitudes, the Fi 156 "Storch" multi-purpose aircraft is a product of the German "Fieseler" factory. The prototype flew in the spring of 1936 and was used during World War II in Europe. In 1940 the Аir Force of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia bought twenty "Storchs", which were mostly destroyed during the April War.

Confirmation of the quality of this aircraft is represented by the fact that Winston Churchill used one of the 47 captured "Storchsfor his personal transport. This type of aircraft was also used by Otto Skorzeny on September 12, 1943, when he rescued Italian dictator Benito Mussolini from captivity in the Grand Sasso mountain range.

After examining captured examples, the Allies concluded that the Fi 156 was an aircraft unmatched in its class.
After World War II, production continued in Czechoslovakia and France. At the end of the war, National Liberation Army of Yugoslavia units captured 8 "Storchs", and in 1947 another 14 aircrafts were acquired from Czechoslovakia. They were in service with the Yugoslav Air Force until 1957, after which they were handed over to the Aeronautical Union of Yugoslavia, where the last example was disused in 1960. The museum Fi 156 was handed over in 1963 from the Aero Club Maribor.
