Westland S-51
The American helicopter S-51 is the work of the company "Sikorsky", named after the designer Igor Sikorsky. It was also produced under license in the "Westland" company in Great Britain. It was intended for the transport of materials and personnel, rescue missions and humanitarian actions. It had a very notable role during the Korean War, when it was used to rescue United Nations pilots. Three S-51 helicopters were delivered in 1946 to the American Air Transport Services Company, making it the first helicopter used in civil aviation.
The S-51 was the first helicopter used in Yugoslavia. It has demonstrated the ability to operate in a variety of conditions, as well as landing on a different surfaces, including water and snow. The aircraft on display has been in the museum's collection since 1974 and was used in the Yugoslav Air Force to transport people and cargo, with the possibility of installing external carriers for transporting the wounded.
