Soko „522“

Soko 522 was made according to the project of engineers Ivan Šoštarić, Stanko Marjanović, Steva Ćurić and Mirko Dabinović. It was the first serial plane of the “Soko” factory from Mostar. It was intended for transitional and basic pilot training. After the initial training of pilots on Aero-3 aircraft, training continued on Soko 522 aircraft, and then on S-49C and F-47D fighter planes.

In addition to active military pilots, many generations of reserve pilot officers have been trained on this aircraft. After their retirement in the Yugoslav Air Force, these airplanes had been given to the Aviation Association of Yugoslavia. Soko 522 was often used in Yugoslav cinematography, where it authentically played the role of a German Focke-Wulf fighter.

The displayed Soko 522 aircraft from the collection of the Aeronautical Museum was produced on January 19, 1959, and after it was withdrawn from the Air Base in Batajnica, it was handed over to the Museum on April 13, 1979.
