Ikarus ''451 M''
On the basis of project 451, the first Yugoslav jet plane Ikarus 451M with two turbojet engines was developed, which mostly kept the shape and dimensions of the plane 451. The letter M was added as a designation for the jet plane. The biggest difference between these two models is in the cabin, because the pilot was in a sitting position.
The first flight was performed by test pilot Tugomir Prebeg on October 25, 1952, which marked the beginning of the era of jet aviation in our country.
During 1954, the version S - 451M "Wasp" was made with the engine located in the axis of the wing. Both versions of the aircraft had two French "Turbomeca Palas" engines for which the license was purchased by the engine factory in Rakovica. One prototype of the 451M aircraft was made, which flew until 1959, and in 1961 it was handed over to the Aeronautical Museum.
On May 19, 1960, pilot Ivan Črnjarić on "Wasp" achieved a world speed record for its class of aircraft - 501 km/h. The only example of "Wasp" was not armed and received civilian registration, and was disused in 1968 due to damage regarding landing gear.
