Ikarus T-451MM "Stršljen" II

Within the program 451, aircrafts J451MM "Stršljen" (eng. "Hornet") and T451MM "Stršljen 2" ("Hornet 2") were constructed, as well as the two-seater trainer aircraft Š451MM "Matica" ("Queen Bee").

The basic idea of the "Stršljen" group of light attack aircrafts project is the construction of a small aircraft, suitable for partisan warfare. This group of planes is also significant because they represented the first Yugoslav planes with an ejectable seat.

The first flight of the "Stršljen" was carried out in 1958. The example on display was disused in 1969, while the Š 451 MM "Matica" plane is kept in the museum depot.

This group of experimental aircrafts was not serially produced, but played a significant role in the development of jet aviation and the subsequent successful project of the Galeb G-2 fighter jet.
