Sarić No 1

The pioneer of the Yugoslav aeronautics, Ivan Sarić was an enthusiast from Subotica, who constructed the first airplane in this area, called Sarić No. 1.

After getting acquainted with aviation and aircraft construction in France, Sarić made his aircraft based on the airplane of the French aviator Louis Bleriot. The fact that he built a maneuverable aircraft with his own forces and resources, classifies Sarić’s endeavor as true feats. In his native town Subotica, the first plane became a great attraction. It was exhibited in the hall of the hotel in Subotica for a few days and then Sarić performed the first flights on his plane. The Sarić No. 1 plane marked the beginning of Ivan Sarić’s very productive work in the field of aviation.

In the collection of the Aeronautical Museum, there is a replica of the Sarić 1 plane, made in the 1950s in the aeroclub in Subotica. It also has some original parts of the aircraft Sarić 1, and Ivan Sarić personally participated in the work on the replica.
